Interview with Yağmur Sağnak: sustainable logistics and safe deliveries for Ekan Kimya additives

When it comes to concrete additives, product quality must arrive at the construction site (or plant) exactly as it was designed in production. That is why logistics is a strategic element: dedicated vehicles, cleaning and maintenance procedures, traceability and, increasingly, sustainable logistics and green logistics. In this interview Yağmur Sağnak, Logistics Manager at Ekan Kimya, explains how national and international deliveries are managed, through intermodal transport, isotanks and solutions to optimise time and environmental impact.

Questions and answers

1) Can you tell us about Ekan Kimya’s logistics activities?

Answer: Ekan Kimya delivers the additives produced at its Tuzla plant to cement factories and ready-mix concrete plants throughout Turkey, using dedicated tanker trucks with single and double compartments for safe and punctual operations. The fleet consists of modern vehicles (no older than five years) equipped with stainless steel tanks meeting high quality standards. Before each loading, the tankers undergo rigorous cleaning processes and periodic maintenance to prevent contamination and preserve product performance.

Answer: For international customers, the logistics team analyzes needs and location to identify the most suitable transport method each time, with the aim of delivering safely and consistently with the customer’s operational needs.

2) How is sustainable logistics ensured at Ekan Kimya?

Answer: In international shipping, Ekan Kimya focuses on the principles of green logistics and sustainability, favoring sea-rail combinations through intermodal solutions. Electric tow tractors and Ro-Ro hybrid transport are also used in this context, helping to reduce the carbon footprint and make the supply chain more efficient.

Answer: To enable rapid testing in remote areas, small samples are sent by air, a targeted choice to reduce technical validation time without compromising the overall efficiency of the logistics process.

3) What alternative solutions do you adopt in addition to standard cargo in maritime transport?

Answer: In addition to standard shipments, dedicated solutions such as 20-foot open-top containers have been adopted: a choice used, for example, to transfer chemical laboratories, production machinery and R&D equipment necessary for the installation of the new plant to Saudi Arabia. This approach made it possible to quickly complete the start-up of activities and to prepare for the increase in production capacity in that area as well.

4) Can you give us information about the packaging and shipping methods of the products?

Answer: Most of the products are exported in IBCs and Big Bags. For sea and intermodal shipments, 20’DC and 45’HC box containers are frequently used. When the customer has tanks on site and higher volumes are needed, Ekan Kimya uses Isotank solutions, ideal for optimizing logistics costs and making large quantity shipments faster and more efficient.

Logistics as part of quality

Between dedicated stainless steel tankers, intermodal sea-rail transport, hybrid Ro-Ro solutions and the use of Isotanks, the approach described by Yağmur Sağnak highlights a key point: logistics is not an ancillary step, but a concrete component of the quality of the service and the sustainability of the supply chain.
